Clinically Tested
Clinically Tested for Skin Compatibility
Study type: HRIPT (Human Repeat Insult Patch Test) • Location: Independent UK laboratory • Oversight: GMC-registered consultant dermatologist
Why we tested
Hela Hair believes color should be comfortable. That’s why we ran a dermatology-supervised HRIPT to evaluate skin tolerability and sensitisation potential under controlled conditions, including sensitive skin types.
Who was tested
- Sample size (n): 106 participants
- Skin type mix: 50% self-perceived sensitive skin
- Skin tones: Fitzpatrick I–VI
How the test worked (HRIPT protocol)
- Final-use product placed under occlusive patches on the upper back
- Induction phase: 9 applications across ~3 weeks
- Rest period: ~14 days
- Challenge patch: re-applied and assessed for sensitisation
- Dermatological grading at ~1h and ~48h after patch removal
Results at a glance
- No clinically significant irritation observed
- No evidence of sensitisation in the panel
- Any mild, transient redness recorded resolved without intervention
What we can confidently say
- Dermatologically tested (HRIPT)
- Clinically tested for skin compatibility (HRIPT)
- Tested on sensitive skin (50% of panel self-perceived sensitive)
- No irritation/sensitisation observed in the panel
Transparency & compliance notes
HRIPT assesses skin tolerability and sensitisation potential under controlled patch conditions. It does not measure product performance (e.g., color longevity or grey coverage). Claims on this page are made in line with EU/UK Common Criteria (Reg. (EU) 655/2013, retained in GB) and ASA/CAP guidance for cosmetic claims. Data on file.
Patch test guidance
Even with excellent tolerability outcomes, we recommend a 24–48 hour patch test prior to first use, particularly for allergy-prone or sensitive skin.
